Jacko, Farrah: What a Weird Day.
I can't believe Michael Jackson is dead. What a bizarre thing. So many questions to be answered. I couldn't take my eyes off the cable coverage. MSNBC cited the LA Times and reported Jackson dead at about 3:15. David Schuster did a terrific job on the anchor desk. CNN and MSNBC reported he was in a coma before FOX News, but FOX quickly followed MSNBC in confirming his death. CNN wouldn't confirm the death until the coroner did it for them, live on the air.
What a strange day. Farrah Fawcett, the iconic "Charlie's Angel" pinup of the 1970's, passed away this morning. The stage was all set for her nationally- televised moment of national appreciation. The specials were all set to be aired. But Jacko just snatched all that away from her.
Charlie's Angels got me in trouble once. I was ten, and had my choice of poster for selling enough candy bars: Starsky and Hutch or Charlie's Angels. I grabbed the Charlie's Angel poster, and my dad let me have it later. He said it was inapproppriate. I told Jaqueline Smith this story when she was a guest on our show and she said I made the right choice. Agreed.
I remember coming to school the day after the Motown 25th anniversary show in 1983. Everybody was buzzing about it. Nobody had seen anything like it before. This was just before Thriller was released. Michael Jackson performed Billie Jean, live, on national TV, and created a worldwide sensation. He busted out the glove, and the highwaters, and the moonwalk-- and people freaked. Everybody at school was talking about it the next day. It was like the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. You fully expected "Thriller" to be huge. And, of course, it was.
I went in and talked with the boys on The BJ Shea Morning Experience today on KISW. It 's always good to hang with those guys, although I wish it had been under better circumstances.
Two people who called into the show--folks I have never even met in person-- have stepped up big time to support me in my fight against cancer. Lori Anderson, one of my Twitter peeps, called in. She has started a Walk For Wixey Campaign. We're trying to raise $5,000 to fight Leukemia and Lymphoma, by walking in the "Light the Night" walk on September 26th in Green Lake. I think it's a great idea.
My Facebook friend, Damien, also called the show. It was good to hear from him. Damien started a Bill Wixey Cancer Support Group on Facebook, and more than 600 people have joined. How cool is that?
I am so blessed by all of you. Your generosity amazes me.
I didn't run today. I was feeling tired. Some little creature came into our room at 4:45 am, and woke me up by flipping on the light, scurrying into our bathroom. I didn't recognize the creature.

Gigi had all of her hair cut off and donated it to Locks of Love. We had her hair cut at 7 Salon in Bellevue Square, which offers to cut your hair for free if you donate to Locks of Love.
I'm anchoring the morning show tomorrow on Q13 FOX. I gotta go to sleep. Two days until Rock n' Roll.

Bill,
I find your candor about dealing with the cancer treatment refreshing, even in the midst of such a difficult trial - and it reminds me of Farrah Fawcett's honesty.
I find it so incredibly sad that such an amazing person as Fawcett would end up being eclipsed by Jackson, someone who - in my opinion (and obviously not that of everyone) was a textbook pedophile. Fawcett was an incredible role model for those battling cancer and brought it so much forefront with her honesty and transparency - much like you have.
Thank you for what you are doing, Bill. I have some really close friends that have battled cancer and the humor and honesty you have been using to chronicle your battle really makes it understandable for those who haven't had to face cancer head on. Thank you for that.
Keep up the good fight and God bless!
- Kelsey
PS. How's that head of hair holding up this week?
