Halfway home

I'm heading in for my third chemotherapy session today.  I prepare for these sessions just like I would for a road race.  I eat a decent breakfast (today it was organic raisin bran and soy milk, along with a Trio bar, which is an organic mix of nuts), and a good amount of water.  I try to stay hydrated before and after these sessions to flush my system the best I can of these toxins.

The type of chemotherapy that I'm getting is called ABVD therapy.  The four drugs are adriamycin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine.

Adriamycin, also known as Doxorubicin, is red in color, and is sometimes referred to as "red death" for it's numerous side effects.  It can cause nausea, vomiting, and heart arrythmias.  It can also cause neutropenia (a decrease in white blood cells).  It makes you pee floursescent orange during treatment.

It's also the one that makes your hair fall out.  I think it's working on me. I have about half the hair I started with, which is about the same as normal people, so it's still not time to shave it off.

After today, I'm halfway home.  Three chemo sessions down, three to go. .

    Hi Bill,

You're still in my prayers. You seem to be doing well, and I agree with what your friend said in your other blog -- you are the healthiest sick person I know. I admire you sticking with the physical activity -- exercise is good for lots of different kinds of ailments. You also seem to be in very good hands.

It's great that you are keeping such a good attitude -- you are definitely an inspiration to many others. God bless,

    Steve

Bill-I'm a fellow warrior in the battle against cancer!! I have a mind set that might help you stay positive during these hard times. Look at your cancer as squatters that have taken up residence without your permission and you are doing everything in your powers to evict from your home (aka your body) while making sure that they can not get back in once they are gone!!! I hope this helps you get through these tough times like has for me. All my prayers & positive thought coming your way !!!

Hi Bill, I was deeply saddened to hear that you were diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. My brother, Bryce, was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma early June 2008. He had to go through chemo and then follow it up with radiation therapy. I'm happy to say his treatments ended early December 2008. He's doing very well now. He only goes in every other month for testing and scans to be sure he's all clear.

If you get cancer, Hodgkin's Lymphoma is the "best" one to get, I guess is what they say. Due to it being highly treatable.

Please know that I think of you often, simply because of my brother and his battle. I wish you the best of luck Bill, on this journey. Though it's tough and rigorous, I have no doubt you'll be going in clear soon.

Take care! My thoughts and prayers are with you 100%. Go Bill! Go Bill! Go Bill!!!

PS I miss you being on in the mornings.
